So what is HDCP?

HDCP is a form of copy protection for digital audio and video content. It stands for High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection. How to fix Roku HDCP Error

  1. Disable the Display Refresh Rate of the Roku Device

In case you see the HDCP error during setup, try disabling the Display Refresh Rate in your Roku device:

  • Press the Home button on your remote.
  • Open “Settings” on the Home Screen.
  • Select “System” from the Settings list.
  • Select “Display”.
  • Select “Display Refresh Rate”.

Unselect the “Auto” checkbox (next to Display Refresh Rate). Select a value that matches your monitor’s refresh rate for optimum performance (e.g., 60Hz for most LCD/LED monitors). This setting is especially important when using an HDTV as a display since HDTVs don’t refresh at 60Hz by default.

  • Press the Home button on your remote.

Select “HDCP”. Select a value that matches your monitor’s HDMI input (e.g., Auto for TV Out). This setting can be used to prevent channel content from displaying error messages or preventing Roku channel streaming to work properly when an HDCP-protected source is connected to your TV via HDMI.
